Course Description (4-6 weeks)
|
This review course is designed for health
care students, and practitioners, who are responsible for blood and specimen
collections (i.e., nurses, phlebotomists, clinical laboratory technicians
and technologists, medical assistants and others). The primary goal of the
course is to link the phlebotomist (blood collector) to the latest information,
techniques, skills, and equipment for the provision of safe and effective
collection procedures, for the improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic
laboratory testing, for enhancement of customer satisfaction, and ultimately,
for the promotion of better health outcomes. This course provides a wide
range of competencies, including communication, clinical, technical, and
safety skills that any health care worker will use in the practice of phlebotomy
and other specimen collection procedures. This course will provide students
with the necessary knowledge required to pass a national Certification Exam.
